"Cleo Deterding 97 of Arnold, Nebraska passed away November 22, 2006 at the Callaway Rest home. Cleo was born to Ira and Althel (Blowers) Spratt on January 5, 1909, seven miles southeast of Arnold in Ycca Valley. She was the oldest of four girls. Cleo lived all of her 97 years in the Arnold Area. She graduated from Arnold High School in 1927. On June 28, 1927, she was united in marriaged to Edgar Walter Deterding at her parents dod home 5 miles southwest of Arnold. The farmed and raised cattle two miles south of Arnold. To tis union, three children were born: Patricia Dee (Deterding) Crow, Edgar Lee Deterding and Camelia (Cammy) Jo (Deterding) Ament. In the early year of marriaged Cleon and ed helped their neighbors and families by caring for their children. Wnen Ed became ill in later years, Cleo cared for him at home until he passed away. She then cared for her father, Ira, for a short time until he passed away and also her sister, Cora, in Oregon. She enjoyed helping people especillay the elderly, even if they were younger than she. One of her loves was working at the cafe and you would often see her speeding up and down the road to get there. Cleo loved the land and all that entails with farming. She raised chickens, hogs and cattle and going to the sale to watch her cattle sell was something she enjoyed very much. Cleo enjoyed very good health. In the winter of 2000, she moved to Riverview Apartments and loved the activities and friends. The last year was trying for her as her health failed and she was in hospitals and then Callaway Rest home. She is survived by her children, Pat Crow of Arnold, Ed (Joyce) Deterding of Anselmo and Cammy (John) Amen of Lincoln; grandchildren Penny (Bob) Allen, Joy Crow, Allen Crow all of Arnold, Cindy (Craig) Byar of Colorado, Susan (Jeff) Hunter of Kansas, Judy (Bruce) Allen of Wyoming, Bruce (Mary) Deterding of Eustis/Farnam, Earl Deterding of Arnold, Dawn (Brian)Witt Travis(Jukane) Amen all of Lincoln, Holly (Boe) Stutzman of Beaver Crossing. There are 20 great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was proceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters and spouses: Crystal and Roy Will, Alice and Eric Olson, Cora and Harold Radcliffe and son-in-law Darrell Cros." - Judy Deterding Allen
