"I’m the great granddaughter of Cora Lester (Reed) Scott Vance. She had a daughter, Myrtle Mae (Scott) Morgan who told us stories of the harsh and challenging life her grandmother Margaret A. (Schenck) Reed and grandfather George William Reed lived on their homestead just outside of Arnold, Nebraska. Cora’s father George died in1888 after falling off his horse while intoxicated trying to return from Arnold, Nebraska back to his wife and family. Sadly, he froze to death. Margaret stayed on the homestead raising her children including Cora and at least ten of her siblings. We know little of Cora’s first husband but she went on to marry James Harvey Vance on July 3, 1906 and had one child, Robert Reed Vance. Cora died on December 29, 1919 at 47 years old. Cora died one year before her daughter Myrtle Mae Scott married Frank J. Morgan in 1920 who moved to Wyoming. Cora never knew the joy of knowing her grandchildren Murry, my dad Kenny, Maeilene, or Frank Morgan Jr. or great grandchildren - Roger and Ron, Dennis and Garry, D.
